2025 Captiva Beach Renourishment Project
Beach Renourishment Update: Dredging Complete
Updated November 26, 2025
We are pleased to announce that all dredging operations for the 2025 Captiva Beach Renourishment Project are now complete. Great Lakes Dock & Dredge has officially finished delivering sand to the island, marking a major milestone in Captiva’s ongoing shoreline restoration.
Over the next week, equipment and pipeline will continue to demobilize, and work areas will steadily clear as crews remove machinery from the beach.
Dune Planting Now Underway
With sand placement complete, planting crews are now moving north along the island, installing sea oat plugs throughout the newly constructed dune system. This important step stabilizes the dunes, supports long-term storm protection, and enhances the natural coastal habitat.
You may see crews working in various locations as they:
- Plant sea oats along the crest and slope of the dunes
- Smooth and finish the beach surface as needed
- Restore public access paths as they progress
What to Expect Over the Coming Days
- Active work areas will shift as demobilization and planting continue
- Short-term access restrictions may occur around equipment or planting zones
- The beach will be tilled to reduce compaction
- All areas will reopen promptly once work is safely complete
- Turner Beach parking lot remains open
- Alison Hagerup Beach parking lot will reopen November 28th
We sincerely appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation throughout this project. This renourishment effort represents a vital investment in Captiva’s resilience—enhancing storm protection, improving recreational access, and supporting the long-term health of our coastal environment.
